On Monday, October 30, 2017, of Silver Spring, MD.  Beloved wife of the late Norman R. Ayers, Sr.; mother of Carol Simon, Norma Jean (Gary) Armbruster, the late Norman R. Ayers, Jr., Janette E. (Timothy) Ritondo and Joan P. (Ron) Chalfant.  Also survived by eleven grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and numerous great-great grandchildren. Predeceased by ten siblings.  Graveside Service and Interment at Maryland National Memorial Park, 13300 Baltimore Avenue, Laurel, MD, on Thursday, November 2, 2017 at 2 p.m.

SANTIAGO JIM SILVA

Santiago Jim Silva was the eldest son of Benigno Silva and Amalia (Garcia) Silva.  A native of San Antonio, Texas, Silva was a graduate of San Antonio’s Central Catholic High School, St. Mary’s College, and Our Lady of the Lake College. Silva was a teacher, coach, and athletic director at St. Gerard’s and Holy Cross high schools in San Antonio. He was also one of the original planners of the San Antonio Neighborhood Youth Organization (SANYO), and an active leader and lifelong member of San Antonio’s League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC). A veteran of the U.S. Navy, Silva moved to Washington, D.C. to work for the U.S. Department of Labor, where he served as a manpower development specialist, special assistant for Latin American affairs, and a member of the U.S./Mexican Commission for Border Development. He was married to Mary (Mackelmann) Silva and had two daughters. He is survived by both of his daughters, Cristina Silva and Elena Silva, his son-in-law Brian Woodward, his grandchildren Riley Hinton, Elian Woodward, and Gabriela Woodward, and a host of other dear family and friends in San Antonio and the local Maryland-DC area. On Wednesday, October 25, 2017, of Silver Spring, MD. Beloved brother of David Fox (Linda) , Mary Anne Frye (Howard), Kathy Catucci (Ernie); James Fox (Geri), Billy Fox (Bernice), and John Fox (Nancy); also survived by many nieces and nephews. Thomas was a graduate of Our Lady of Good Counsel and attended the University of Maryland. He proudly served in the U.S. Army as an M.P. stationed in Germany during the Vietnam era. For over three decades he worked in the communication division of Local 26 IBEW, and was owner of James Electrical Control, Inc. for the last 11 years, until he recently retired. Tommy was an avid golfer and sports handicapper, who will be missed by his many longtime friends. Of Silver Spring, MD, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 26, 2017. She was born in Valley Lee, Maryland on April 26, 1922 and graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in Leonardtown, MD. She retired from the Federal Government after 20+ years of service. She and husband Edwin J. Zabel were married for nearly 60 years before his passing in 2008. She has been very active in the Catholic church throughout her life. She is the mother of Mary Anne (Bob) Shepherd, Joseph (Vickie Sindler), Lawrence (Kathy) and Mark (Bernadette) Zabel; grandmother of Heidi Dellafave, Lana Gordon, Katherine Sunder (John), and Matthew (Sally), John, James (Bethany), Monica and Anne Zabel; sister of Joseph (Violet) McKay. She is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews and great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by siblings Elizabeth, Bernard, Benjamin, Aloysius, Xavier, and Virginia McKay. DENNIS MICHAEL CONNORS (Age 66)

Passed away peacefully on October 18, 2017. He joins his loving parents, John A. and Elizabeth (Betty) Connors, and his brother, Jeffrey. He is survived by his devoted wife Patricia Cribben Connors, by his sister Carol Pitts, and his brother Kevin Connors, plus a host of relatives and friends.

He was indomitable, fearless, and funny. Among his many accomplishments was his winning of the most medals at the first Special Olympics. Dennis loved travel and played music, both of which he enjoyed until his final illness.

Visitation and a service will be held on Friday, October 27 at 11 a.m. in Our Lady of Grace Church, 15663 Norbeck Blvd, Silver Spring, MD, 20906. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Joseph P. Kennedy Institute of Catholic Charities in Washington, DC.
